Master of Light

George co-created the award-winning documentary Master of Light, a portrait of George as an artist, which lyrically shines a light on racial injustice, intergenerational trauma, and resilience. George collaborated with film director Rosa Ruth Boesten, and Master of Light has already won top awards at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival , 2022 San Francisco International Film Festival and Sheffield International Doc fest along with several others. George has partnered with Represent Justice on the film’s impact campaign and will be speaking at screening events across the country.

Three years in the making, the "Master of Light" documentary about George Morton, made its world premier at the highly competitive SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, March 11-20, 2022. The film highlights George's unique journey as he ascends his childhood world of unforgiving poverty, followed by 10 years in federal prison, where he taught himself to paint. Since his release 8 years ago, George became the first African American to graduate from the prestigious Florence Academy of Art. He has travelled the world, and in recent years, most extensively in Egypt, where he is discovering the genesis of the design principles that in later centuries informed the Renaissance in Europe. His speed dial is full of fascinating people and artists from all over the world.
